Energy Healing is the second component of Triquetra Therapy™ and it is the second way we work with the mind/body connection. You will see Bioenergy (the term the the NSF uses) referred to by many other names: energy healing, energy treatment, energy medicine, aura healings, and of course specific energy systems names. They all work the same way (with the body's energy centers, subtle energy fields, chakras,and meridian systems) but on sliightly different frequencies. All are very gentle, soothing, and relaxing. All work on the physical level first, then the emotional, and then the spiritual. The energies typically take 5-7 days to progress through each level.
Mind / Body Connection via the Endocrine System
Remember, hypnosis works with the immune system while energy healing works with the endocrine system. Both the immune system and the endocrine system have huge impacts on the body and they are substantial components of the mind/body connection.
Energy Healing is now more and more widely accepted by hospitals and the mental health establishment. These days, it is not unusual to find a nurse or psychotherapist who is also a Reiki Master. There are now plenty of clinical studies that show the efficacy of using some form of energy healing, whether that treatment is Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, directed Qi, or some other flavor of bioenergy treatment, before and after surgery as well as being helpful for all kinds of mental health issues.
Treatment before and after surgery or trauma to the body speeds healing and minimizes recovery time. Treatment in conjunction with psychotherapy can help a client break through blocks and plateaus in treatment, gently and easily.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy tend to be much more intense, or "in your face" therapies, where the client must confront the problem in some form or other in the subconscious, whether that is a monster under the bed or an abuser from childhood and relive the experience(s). Energy Healing is a gentler therapy that helps bring those buried issues to the surface to be dealt with gently and easily when the client is ready. Nothing surfaces unless you're ready to deal with it.
How Energy Medicine Works
Energy Healing is therapy that helps your own body’s energy unknot and heal itself. Our bodies are basically biochemical batteries. We eat food that our bodies convert to energy, which is used for numerous biochemical reactions, including regulating hormones, heart rate, breathing, nervous function, and so on. Remember from your high school chemistry and physics that batteries generate a current and that, that current creates an electromagnetic field. So do our bodies, however small or great that electromagnetic field might be and however sensitive, or insensitive, we (or our technological ability to measure it) are to it.
Bioenergy Anatomy
The electromagnectic field that surrounds our body (the aura) is generated from energy vortexes eminating from the body, the larger ones are associated with the endocrine glands, as shown below. They are also associated with specific psychological issues and archetypes.
Pineal (brain) = Crown / 7th Chakra
Governs beauty, spirituality, the connection wit the Divine Source
Functional Archetype: Guru
Dysfunctional Archetype: Egotist
Pituitary (brain) = 3rd Eye / 6th Chakra
Governs spiritual vision, clairvoyance, wisdom, knowledge, intuition, discernment, and imagination
Functional Archetype: Intuitive

Thyroid / Parathyroid (throat) = Throat / 5th Chakra
Governs speaking your truth, communication, integrity, will power, creativity, and truth

Thymus = Heart / 4th Chakra
Governs love, joy, unity, kinship, and peace
Functional Archetype: Lover

Pancreas = Solar Plexus / 3rd Chakra (just below the belly button)
Governs self confidence, self esteem, self image, self worth, and confidence

Governs pleasure, well-being, sexuality, and abundance

Governs grounding the spirit in the material world --- survival, safety, and power.

Crystalline, Star, Earth Angel, and Rainbow Children
Recently I ran cross some material that discuss when these energy centers complete their formation during development, so I will soon add another page with that information. Basically, each of the main chakras is associated with a specific stage of development in the womb, so that what is occuring to the mom during those developmental stages is very important. Then again during development, each chakra is again developed over a number of years. The general development is from lower / root chakras up to and through the crown chakra. (No wonder babies have soft crowns! They are still very connected to the spiritual world and not fully in their bodies until ages 5-7 years.)
We have more and more extremely special souls joing us in the form of very spiritually advanced children and I think information on when the completion of the energy centers (and their associated archetypal function) might be quite helpful to some of you. The energy required to bring in some of these souls is tremendous by our "normal" energetic standards. The energy level of this reality has been and continues to accelerate — the "quickening" that some refer to. As more of these special children are born, it is imperative that we recognize them, encourage them, and nurture them in their differences before they shut down their special abilities and try to be more "normal."
Closing our Crown, Heart, and Root Chakras
In our modern society, we have tended to cut ourselves off so as not to feel anything:
* We close off our Crown Chakra and deny our connection to the universe, god, and anything greater than ourselves.
* We close off our Heart Chakra and our connection to other living beings and the Web of Life. Often we isolate our heart chakras after a series of tremendous heart aches.
* We disconnect our Root Chakra from our Mother Earth, and lose our grounding, steering guide. Often, those with a terminal illness have disconnected their root chakras signifying they are ready to leave. Also, those who have suffered abuse and trauma tend to not be fully "in the body," and certainly not grounded in the root chakra.
Other therapies also work with the body's energy system, including acupuncture and acupressure and traditional chinese medicine. Acupuncture works with the meridians that run between the chakras, including the smaller chakras that are found on the joints. It also deals specifically with organ energy. Accupressure works on many of the same principals, but uses the pressure of your hands instead of tiny needles. An Acupuncturist is also often a Chinese herbalist , and will often prescribe herbs to also help change the energy in the body. And do not be surprised if your acupucturists also wants to know what your eating or prescribes certain foods to help with your specific ailment. Those with certifications (there are national licenses for both acupuncture and prescribing chinese herbs) in Traditional Chinese Medicine use all of these.
Examples of bioenergetic therapy include Qi Gong therapy from traditional chinese medicine, Reiki from the Japanese, Therapeutic Touch, Karuna Healing / Reiki, Intgrated Energy Therapy, Reconnective Healing, and most other forms of therapy that involve a laying-on-of-hands of some type.
How Bioenergy Treatments Work
The technique of laying-on-of-hands dates back to biblical times, and probably before. Several studies have now been done that give us a better understanding of how these bioenergetic therapies work: The electromagnetic field around the practioner’s hands increases providing a denser magnetic field. In some cases, even an absorption of gamma rays (a form of radiation that usually passes right through the body and which can cause cellular mutations of many types) has been measured.
Bioenergy treatments help balance your energy field. Areas that are weak often manifest physical ills later if the root cause of the weakness in the energy field is not discovered and dealt with. Bioenergy treatments can help boost those areas that are weak and smooth out your entire system. It also helps gently bring to the surface the cause of the problem, but only as fast as you are able to and ready to work with the issue. Noted above are some of the issues associated with each of the major chakras.
I practice several types of bioenergy treatments. I'm certified as a Reiki Master Teacher, Karuna Healing Master Teacher, Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) Advanced Practioner, and my hands have also been activated with Reconnective Healing. I no longer control what comes from my hands, trusting that someone who sees more than I, knows which energy or combination of energyes what you need most.
I also practice Qi Gong regularly, typically outside in the grass without shoes (or without rubber soles--the rubber blocks the grounding energies of Mother Earth) for at least 20 minutes a day, twice a day whenever possible.
